Canada Rocky Mountains

Horseback riding in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta

The Rocky Mountains are a mountain range stretching for a total of 4,830 km from the south of the US to the north of Canada and is also called the Continental Divide, as the mountain range divides the continent in two.

The Canadian Rockies have a considerably more capricious appearance than the American ones, because the Canadian Rockies have always been very heavy glaciers. This has resulted in pointed mountain ridges with wide U-shaped valleys, carved by glaciers.

Located just one hour southwest of Calgary we have the right horseback vacation to satisfy the cowboy in everyone.
Our top quality horses are always tuned to your ability to guarantee an enjoyable ride.

To ensure that we offer each of our guests a personal horseback holiday that exceeds their expectations, we only take a maximum of 14 guests per trail. This means that the number of registrations (international) is limited. Do you want join this trail, don’t hesitate for too long!

This trail takes us through the Highwood Mountain Range, and is the most popular trail that our host offers.
It is a 7-day moving trail where two teams of draft horses and covered wagons are used to bring the food, luggage and equipment to the various camps where we stay during the trip.
We stay in two or three different camps while following the continental border between Alberta and BC (British Columbia) over the course of these 7 days.

As the cars travel through the lower mountains and valleys, the horsemen hit the high mountain paths that take you high above the tree line, past tumbling mountain streams and through stands of virgin wood to the continental gorge between Alberta and BC.
By the time you reach the next camp, the kitchen tent is ready and a welcome cup of hot coffee is waiting for you.

We supply all your meals, starting with lunch on the first day, and ending with lunch on the last day. We provide the horses, cooks, wranglers, guide, tents, cots with foam mattresses, all your meals and snacks – everything exept your sleeping bag and personal gear. Please note that while we highly recommend helmets we do not supply them, so if you wish to wear one or have your child wear one, you will need to bring it with you.

DAY 0:

Europa-Canada

Example: Departing from Paris Charles de Gaulle 13.15hr - Montreal - Calgary 20.41hr (Time difference is 6 hours earlier)

DAY 1:

Everyone meets at the ranch at 9:30 a.m. We will truck the horses and gear to the Etherington trailhead, where we will load the wagon, mount our horses and set off on the trail to camp. We will ride up Etherington Creek to the Great Divide Trail, up over Baril Peak and down to Baril Creek, to meet the wagon at the first campsite.

DAY 2:

After breakfast we mount the horses and head up to Baril Creek, drop over a canyon in B.C., around Mount Boulton, and back to camp. This is a longer day (approximately 6 ½ hours of riding), and very rugged and steep terrain is negotiated.

DAY 3:

We break camp, load the wagons and the riders head up over Fitzsimmons and Strawberry ridges and drop down into the Highwood River, where the second camp has been set up.

DAY 4:

We ride as far as we can up the mountain, tie off the horses, and climb up to Carnarvon Lake on foot. It’s a great day for fishing, if you choose to do that, or to hike over into British Columbia during the lunch break.

DAY 5:

Today the riders go into the high country overlooking Muir Creek. We cross Muir Creek and ride over the McPhail Creek. Lots of riding along high ridges and steep trails leading back to camp.

DAY 6:

We head up McPhail Creek, ride around the Hill of Flowers, through Bishop Pass to Lake of the Horns. Again, the horses are tied off, and you hike up to the lake for some incredible views from the top!

DAY 7:

The horses are ready and the wagons are packed by 10:30 a.m., ready to head to the trailhead. The wagons go on ahead to the trailhead, and the riders head down McPhail Creek, and cross to the west side of the Highwood Mountain Range. Lunch is on top of Baldy, where we can look to the west at the entire Continental Divide range, where we’ve spent the entire week riding.

We end our trip at the Cat Creek trailhead, where the van is waiting to take us back to civilization.

Tthe group is usually back at the ranch by 5pm .
